FORCE OF NATURE
Located in the heart of the City of Sydney, Oxford Street is an iconic location home to a diverse range of people and architectural styles. Urban infrastructure has boomed. Amongst these skyscrapers reaching for the heavens, two heavenly parks nestle amidst the concrete jungle. The Paddington Reservoir Gardens and Centennial Park continue to exist relentlessly as ongoing infrastructure projects threaten to engulf them completely.
I was wandering on Oxford Street, a young graphic designer looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life, I came across the Paddington Reservoir Gardens and immediately found solace in this vibrant creation. As I wandered through the park, I noticed a stark juxtaposition between the beauty of nature and the urban structures visible from the gardens. Inspired by these events, I aim to create a wayfinding system that pays tribute to nature’s force and resilience, making people realize they can embrace modernity without sacrificing the natural world.
As people navigate their way between The Paddington Reservoir Gardens and Centennial Park, they will encounter a modern and minimalistic wayfinding system that incorporates elements of nature from a microscopic level with elements of modern design.
These trailmarkers serve as signs to let people know they are on the right track.
Stemming from the concept of force of nature, these designs replicate the intricate patterns of leaf veins when looked at from a microscopic level.
These signs are designed in different patterns and colours and will be placed on lamp posts along the route.
The bright colours and unique patterns make the signs stand out and are clearly visible to pedestrians as well as cyclists.
